Highlights from EUSN Conference 2026

We've had a productive and informative week at the 8th European Conference on Social Networks (EUSN 2026) in Norrköping, Sweden, hosted by the Institute for Analytical Sociology (IAS) of Linköping University.

In the Families as Networks session, Vera de Bel presented her research on the spatial organization of family networks in the Netherlands over time and across regions. 

In the Population-scale Social Network Analysis session, Frank Takes kicked off the session discussing recent advances in population-scale social network analysis. 

Irina Epure presented recent modelling work on register-based social networks, conducted with Katherine Hamilton (check out their preprint!)

Arda Ergin gave a talk exploring beyond person-to-person projections using heterogeneous graph neural networks for population-scale social networks. 

Eelke Heemskerk presented on behalf of Eszter Bokányi about the fragmentation of longitudinal population-scale social networks, specifically in the context of decreasing structural social cohesion in the Netherlands. 

Gamal Adel shared his recent work on recovering spatially global communities in large scale spatial networks. 

And Yuliia Kazmina presented on her study of sticky social capital, where she explored economic mobility in a longitudinal population-scale social network (read more in her preprint!).
